The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali
Sustainability Policy
At The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali, it is our aim to achieve environmental and social sustainability. The scope of our business includes luxury accommodation, restaurants, convention centre, spa and a wide range of guest recreation facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, runWestin, cycling tour and Westin Family Kids Club®. Whilst it is our goal that guests leave feeling better than when they arrive, management recognises the importance of not compromising the environment to achieve this objective.
The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali is a haven of serenity. Located at the southern most tip of Bali, the resort has direct access to Nusa Dua Beach and its surrounding tropical coral reefs. Nusa Dua Beach has regional significance as one of the most beautiful beaches in Asia. It is our aim to protect this idyllic environment for the enjoyment of our guests, the broader community and future generations.
The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali strives to achieve environmental sustainability through;
Bali has a strong cultural and spiritual heritage demonstrated through crafts, music, dance and religion. The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali values this cultural heritage and works hard to enhance the local community by;
We have appointed an Environmental Coordinator and are working towards international certification to the Earth Check Silver Re-Certification. By 2020, our energy goal is to reduce our consumption by 30% per available room across all owned, managed and franchised rooms. On the same basis, our goal is to reduce water consumption by 20%.
Green Steps
At The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, we realized the harmful impact that single-use plastics were having on the environment and made the decision to reduce our consumption. We had previously provided our guests with plastic straws, plastic/ polystyrene takeaway containers and cutlery, and plastic-bottled water. A major event bringing in thousands of attendees from all over the world in October 2018 served as a great motivation to showcase our efforts. We eliminated plastic straws from our operations prior to that event and moved to more eco-friendly takeaway containers and cutlery during the event.
On 23rd May 2019, we then moved from supplying water in plastic bottles in all our guestrooms to glass bottles; and all meetings and events at our Bali International Convention Centre. This contributes to a reduction of roughly 2,000 plastic bottles that may end up in the ocean or a landfill per day. We have partnered with organizations to ensure we are “doing good” in all directions. An example would be our food rescue program with Scholars of Sustenance, where excess food from buffets is donated to needy communities in Bali. We also offer teambuilding activities to our event planners that will benefit their organization and our community. We are also embarking on a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly path one step at a time.
